Minnie Lou McCulley, 72, a resident of Dustin, 2023, a loving, selfless, and funny woman, passed away on October 16, 2023, in Tulsa, OK, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 24, 1951, in Dustin, OK, to Sonnie and Nannie Lewis, Minnie was a beacon of joy and generosity to all who knew her.
Minnie was a proud graduate of Sequoyah Boarding School and furthered her education by attending computer classes at Wes Watkins.
Throughout her life, Minnie was known for her unwavering support of her family and friends. She was always there to cheer on her loved ones in their various extracurricular activities, and she loved simply being around those she cared for. When not spending time with family or friends, Minnie could often be found enjoying episodes of Walker Texas Ranger or CSI Miami or trying her luck up on the hill at the No No.
Minnie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gilbert McCulley, her parents, Sonnie and Nannie Lewis, her beloved brother, Gary Lewis, and cherished granddaughter, Kalyda Howard.
Minnie's life was one of selfless devotion to her family and friends. She was the embodiment of the quote by Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Minnie's warmth and humor touched countless lives, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She is survived by her children, LouShannon and Richard Howard of Ardmore, Rhina and Doug Birdsell of Willis, TX, Akeyah and Everardo Flores of Broken Arrow, Zachary McCulley of Dustin, Charity and Robin Roberts of Dustin, and Gilbert Hokkolen and Ashley McCulley of Wetumka. Minnie's legacy also lives on in her siblings, Jerry and Beverly Lewis of Dustin, Maggie Lewis of Weleetka, and Lela and Richard James of Tulsa. She will be fondly remembered by her 24 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Minnie Lou McCulley was a remarkable woman whose impact will be felt for generations to come. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
