Amos Rabbit

March 27, 1940 — December 16, 2020

Amos Rabbit passed away on December 16, 2020, in Okemah, Oklahoma, at 80 years young. He was born March 27, 1940, in Morris, Oklahoma, to Edmond Rabbit and Bertha Lee (Chalakee) Rabbit. Amos attended Dewar Public School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea and later transferred to Fort Hood, Texas. Amos married Pauline Jones and moved his family to California through the Relocation Program offered through the Bureau Indian Affairs (BIA), and attended welding school. Amos worked many years through the Millwright Union until he retired.
He enjoyed his years after retirement, spending time with his family, grandchildren, and extended family members. Amos enjoyed all sports and was a long-time fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Athletics. He also was a huge supporter of Wilson High School basketball teams for many years. Amos enjoyed fishing, working in the pit at demolition derbies, camping, drawing, painting, watching western movies, mowing the lawn, and talking to his longtime friend Spook McIntosh and, he loved his Wild Onion dinners and traditional foods. Amos was a self-taught artist and donated many art drawings to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Division of Health Pink Party from inception until 2013. He also provided artwork for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Veterans Affairs Office's first bronze statue, ESTOFIS EKVNV HOMVN SAPAKLEARES (We Always Have Been – We Always Will Be) Vanguard of the Land VKERRICET MOMEN SENTVCKVS (Remember and Defend). That now resides on sight at the Main Complex in Okmulgee. Amos also served as Vice-President for Sunrise Volunteer Fire Station from 1999 to 2018.
Amos is preceded in death by his spouse Pauline (Jones) Rabbit, parents Edmond & Bertha Rabbit, two sisters Betty Ann Rabbit and Rosie Lee (Rabbit) Berryhill.
He is survived by his daughters Sheila Ramirez and spouse Luis Ramirez, Tammy Rabbit, Kimberly Silva, and spouse Martin Silva. Grandchildren Mahiya Ramirez, Michael Rabbit, Cheyenne Rodrigues, David Rodrigues, Martin Silva Jr., Dakota Silva, and Great-granddaughter Analisa Rodrigues. Four sisters Edna Messer, Irene Washington, Lorene Rabbit, and Geneva Rabbit. Two brothers Edmond Rabbit and Gerald Rabbit and spouse Jeanette. One aunt Alice Burnside. Amos was also like a father to Larry Tom and Mona Tom Henderson. Amos is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday, December 29th 2020 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Integrity Funeral Service, Henryetta, Oklahoma


Services are scheduled for 2:00pm Wednesday, December 30th 2020 at Integrity Funeral Service 410 E. Trudgeon, Henryetta, Oklahoma with interment to follow at Morris Cemetery, Morris, Oklahoma.
