Barbara Jean Dedmon, 83, passed into eternal rest on November 24, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The beloved mother, grandmother, and sister was born on June 26, 1940, in Idabel, Oklahoma to Ruby Marie (Smith) and Claude Thomas Adkins.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Son, Michael Dedmon, grandchildren, Jeanette Dedmon and Mason Brillo; siblings, Roy Lee Adkins, Lucille Haney, David Adkins, and Jerry Dale Adkins.
Born in Idabel, Barbara attended schools in McAlester, family would also spend a time living in California where she did factory work before returning to Oklahoma. Barbara and her family would set roots in McAlester. Barbara spent several years raising her children while working as a seamstress with Komar and Son from where she retired in 2003 after twenty five years of service. Barbara moved to Henryetta in 2020 to live with her daughter.
Barbara lived a fulfilling life marked by the love and devotion for her family. Barbara had a long list of interests. A devoted grandmother, she embraced the role of caretaker, always welcoming relatives and friends into her home with open arms. Everyone knew Barbara by the term "Mom". Barbara loved to fish and read novels by Louis L'Amour and Diana Palmer. She also enjoyed dancing and going to the casinos, playing Bingo and watching the old classics like Dune, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers and any John Wayne movie.
Barbara's family was the cornerstone of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Janice Brillo and husband Mark of Henryetta, Cheryl Miller and husband Sean of Edmond, Ellen Humpherys and husband Chris of Halsey, Oregon, James Dedmon and wife Michelle of Tallahassee, Florida, Ronald Dedmon of McAlester, OK and Keith Dedmon of McAlester, OK. Barbara was the proud grandmother to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson Barbara was a cherished sister to Carol Leonard of McAlester and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Barbara was much loved and will be greatly missed.
