Berna Dean Barrick, 69 a resident of Henryetta, Oklahoma , passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Berna Dean was born March 13, 1954, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Corrine (Brumfield) and Bardine Carlton.

Berna Dean is preceded in death by her parents, Corrine and Bardine Carlton.

Born and raised in Henryetta, Berna Dean was a proud "Hen" graduate of Henryetta High School and later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Her passion for education was evident in her dedication to her students and her commitment to lifelong learning.

In her early years, Berna Dean worked at Local Federal before deciding to focus on her family and education. She was a homemaker, raising her son Jeremiah and daughter Rebekah, before returning to school to complete her degree. Her educational journey was a family affair, with her children by her side. She began teaching and would soon be blessed with her youngest daughter, Sharise.

Berna Dean's teaching career spanned several schools, including Weleetka, Wilson, and Ryal Schools. Her dedication to her students was unwavering, and she was known for her ability to inspire and motivate. She retired from teaching in 2015.

In her retirement, Berna Dean devoted herself to caring for her mother, Corrine, and her grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them, and she will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to them.

Berna Dean is survived by her son, Jeremiah Barrick and his wife, Felicia, of Henryetta, Oklahoma, her daughters, Rebekah Scherman and her husband, Cody, of Crowder, Oklahoma, and Sharise Smock and her husband, E.J., of Jenks, Oklahoma. She was a proud grandmother to Jayla Nye, Jeremian Nye, Jett Barrick, Waylon Berrick, William Barrick, Harley Munholland, Cooper Scherman, Abraham Smock, Samuel Smock, and Sophia Smock.

Berna Dean Barrick was a woman of strength, love, and generosity. Her life was a testament to the power of education, the importance of family, and the value of kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the countless students she inspired throughout her teaching career.
