Betsy Lorene Harjo

Betsy Lorene Harjo, a resident of Okmulgee, passed away January 28, 2025 in Okmulgee, OK at the age of 79. She was born Saturday, January 5, 1946 in Okmulgee County, OK to Wilson Chalakee & Mahala Chlakee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Frances Harjo, brother, Woodrow Chalakee, her sisters; Wanda Holcomb, Rita Spottedbird, and Nancy Chalakee, and her great-granddaughters, Riley Morgan, Angela Vazquez

Our Momma, Betsy Lorene was born into a large family. She grew up around Honey Creek/Wilson area with her parents, Wilson and Mahala Chalakee. Mom attended Wilson Schools. She enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and picking blackberries with her mom. She loved the color purple and being surrounded by the many angel figurines that she had received over the years.

Our Momma married and had four kids who loved her deeply. She was strong determined, a hard working woman who made sure her kids were taken care of.

Our Momma was a woman of many professions: journalism, welding and the medical fields. After retiring, she loved going to the thrift stores, playing cards, dominoes, Yahtzee, and eating at different places until she found her favorite ones; Boom-a-Rang and Steak and Egg.

Our Momma lived a full life, she was a strong woman, worthy of love and respect, looked up to by her children who knew her and her determination to do well for herself and others.

Our Momma has run the race of endurance and is now resting in peace.

She is survived by four children, Terri Lynn Harjo (Michael Morgan) of Morris, OK, Joanna Harjo (Fred Brown) of Mounds, OK, Joyce Harjo of Okmulgee, OK, and Christopher Harjo of Okmulgee, OK, grandchildren; Michael Jr., Nicholas, Taryn, Matthew, Sky, Timmy, Mahayla, Gianna, Robert, Steven, Ashley, Morgan, Ana, Eric, Kara, Karice, Cassie, Quinton, Dustin, and Chris Jr., as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be from 8AM - 1:PM on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Integrity Chapel.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Integrity Chapel. Interment will follow at Tallahassee Cemetery in Okmulgee. Services are under the care and direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Pallbearers include; Michael Morgan Jr., Nicholas Morgan, Quinton Harjo, Daniel Vazquez, Steven Lowe, Dustin Harjo, and Zach Goss.

Honorary Pallbearers include; Chris Harjo Sr., Chris Harjo Jr., Michael Morgan Sr., Fred Brown, John Chalakee, Robert Chalakee, Jimsey Chalakee, Pete Kingfisher, and Robert Lowe.
