Billy "Bill" Kelly, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 30, 2023, in Kansas City, MO. Born on April 29, 1950, in Henryetta, OK, Bill's warmth and kindness touched all who knew him throughout his 73 years of life.
Bill grew up in a close-knit family and was a proud graduate of Dewar High School. His passion for learning led him to Haskell Indian Junior College, where he received a degree in Electronics. His educational background paved the way for a fruitful career that began at Honeywell in Kansas City. Bill's professional journey was as diverse as it was impressive, including a supervisory role at Aerotronics in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, where he met his beloved wife, Diane. Together, they made their home in the Jackfork Mountains, and later in Kansas City, where Bill continued his career as a service technician for American Boilers. His final professional chapter before retirement was with TWA and later American Airlines.
Even in retirement, Bill's energetic spirit could not be stilled. He found joy in staying connected with the community, working at Home Depot and his son's business, Fireplace and BBQ Center. However, his favorite pastime was caring for his grandchildren, whether it was driving them to school, attending ball practice, or running errands. Bill was always there, ready to lend a helping hand or offer a supportive smile.
Bill's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was baptized in the late '70s and held a deep love for the Lord. He took great comfort and inspiration from the Bible, starting with the book of Jeremiah. His spiritual journey included singing joyfully in the choir at Nashua Baptist Church, a testament to his love for music and fellowship.
Athletics and sports were another of Bill's great pleasures. He coached little league, cheered on his grandchildren from the sidelines, and was an avid fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and Oklahoma College football. Whether live or on television, sports brought excitement and joy to his life.
Music from the '60s and '70s held a special place in Bill's heart, though his appreciation for music extended across various genres. His love for melody and rhythm was a reflection of his lively and loving personality.
Bill's legacy is carried on by his loving children, Jonathan (Carrie) Kelly of Kansas City, Jessica (Clint) Swan of Lufkin, TX, Joe Nathan Kelly of Kansas City, and Jeremiah Kelly of Kansas City. His light will continue to shine through his grandchildren, Stephen, Carter, Jack, McKayle (Marcus), Trevor, Brittney (Rennon), JoHannah, and Charley Diane, and great-grandchildren, Meadow and Cassidy. He is also survived by his brother, Earl Kelly, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Esther Kelly, his sister Wanda Froman, his brother LeRoy Kelly, and his wife of 28 years, Diane (O'Kelley) Kelly.
Bill will be remembered as a loving, friendly, and handy man who brought light and love into every room he entered. His legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and a life well-lived. Bill's memory will be etched in the hearts of those who loved him and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
