Shurden Funeral Home 411 West Division Street Henryetta, OK 74437 (918) Fax (918) 652-4451 Charles Albert Brown, known to most as "Abb" a resident of Dustin, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Henryetta, Oklahoma at the age of 87. He was born on April 08, 1925 in Carson, OK to John A. Brown & Pearl (Graham) Brown. He was a graduate of Dustin High School and later was employed as a welder in California shipyards prior to joining the Navy. He served on the submarine USS Muskellunge in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The highlight of his naval career was being a witness to the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Japan aboard the battleship USS Missouri. Following discharge he opened a car and tractor repair shop In Dustin. He and Ruth McClellan were married in 1947. He carried on a farming and ranching operation for many years until he was appointed rural mail carrier which he served for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dustin, the Masonic Lodge #336, US Submarine Veterans of World War II, as well as the American Legion. He served his community many years on Dustin School Board. He was a kind and generous man and glad to help anyone in need. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Abb was a man of many talents; engineer, welder, electrician, and master of motors. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Pearly Pendley, brothers, Lee, Joe and Jack. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Brown of the home, 2 children, Bradley Brown & wife Cynthia of Olatha, Kansas, and Jeanine Harjo of Dustin, Four grandchildren, Jeremy Brown & wife Jasmine of California, Daniel Brown of Olatha, Kansas, Jessica Perkins & husband Chris of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Vanessa Harjo of Bixby, eight great grandchildren, Two brothers, James Brown of Henryetta, and Bill Brown & wife Shirley of Eufaula, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Eddie Brown, Dale Pendley, billy brown, Joe Gene Brown, Jeremy Brown, and Daniel Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Sanders, Steve Wagner, Nathan Benson, Chris Perkins, Raymond Summers, and Joe Thomas. Viewing will be held from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, and from 8am-8pm on Wednesday at Shurden Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Dohrer, officiating. Interment will follow at Dustin Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
