Charles Vernon Carter

Charles Vernon Carter, a resident of Dewar, Oklahoma, passed from this life on December 24, 2017 at his home in Dewar at the age of 81. Charles was born on December 29, 1936 in Eram, Oklahoma to John Carter and Cora Stephens Carter.

Charles grew up in Eram, and the Okmulgee and Morris areas. He faithfully served in the US Air Force for several years before returning to Oklahoma. Charles was married to Josephine Claiborne on September 15, 2011 in the Wilson Community. Charles and his wife attended the United Pentecostal Church. Charles was a gifted carpenter and could build almost anything. Most of all he was a loving, son, brother, husband, father and grandffather and he will be missed by the many people who knew and loved him.

Charles was preceded in death by his son, Vernon "Dan" Carter; a daughter, Theresa Carter; a son, Rickey Dale Carter; and by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his wife Josephine Carter of the home;
a son, Bob Carter and wife Cindi of Quinlan, TX;
a daughter-in-law, Vivian Carter of Weleetka;
a daughter-in-law, Judy Carter of Emory, TX;
a sister, Naomi Lassiter and husband Larry of Kentucky;
three step children, Mike Deckard & wife Sharon of Dewar,
Jerry Deckard of Dewar, Linda Smith of Henryetta;
by grandchildren, Bert Harelson and Caleb Harelson of Henryetta,
Melissa Dawson and husband Joseph of Okmulgee,
Wade Carter and wife Summer of Beggs,
Brandon Hill of Tulsa,
Matt and Chad Carter of Pryor,
Jess Carter of Emory, TX;
Also by numerous other great and great great grandchildren; other extended family and many good friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2:00pm at Dewar United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Cremation and service arrangements were entrusted to Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
