Charles David Minyard

June 17, 1919 — October 13, 2010

Charles David "Charley" Minyard, a longtime resident of the Salem community was born June 17, 1919 in Salem, Oklahoma He was the lastborn of Charley and Lizzie Minyard. He passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Henryetta at the age of 91. Mr. Minyard served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and American Quarter Horse Association. He taught English and coached basketball at Graham (#32) School, Bryant School, & Dewar School. He retired from Dewar Public Schools after many years. He devoted his retirement years to breeding and racing his quarter horses. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Nealy, & Garland Minyard, three sisters, Rosa Minyard, Lottie Eslick, & Edith Hiltibrand. Also preceded in death by four nephews, Tommy Minyard, Jerry Minyard, Skip Minyard, & Omogene Eslick and one niece, Linda K. Sparks. He is survived by five nephews, Tony Minyard of Salem, Bob Minyard of Henryetta, Bruce Hiltibrand of Tulsa, Ed Eslick of Okmulgee, Jim Eslick of California, Nine nieces, Lou Jo Kinney of Salem, Charlena Dunlap of Beggs, Billie Sue Allen of Tahlequah, Geraldine Mumford of Ft. Gibson, Lahoma Morris of Midland, Texas, LaDonna Dodge of Henryetta, Betty Allen of Henryetta, Helen lee of Tulsa, Linda Schmuck of Spiro, As well as a host of great nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Viewing will be 4-8 pm Saturday, 12 - 8 pm Sunday and 8am - 12pm Monday. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Wolfe, officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
