Cleo Alvin Powders, a longtime resident of Henryetta, died in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Tulsa at the age of 93. Cleo was born on February 13, 1921 in rural Woodward, Oklahoma to Oscar Jennings Powders and Inez L. Sharkey. Cleo grew up near Jay, Oklahoma, where he moved in 1931. Cleo was an accomplished mechanic. He worked for over 40 years as a mechanic, mostly with Jimmy Ruth. Cleo was instrumental in building Nichols Park in Henryetta. He was a member of the American Legion and loved going to the Senior Citizens Center. Cleo loved to garden. He raised hundreds of cattle and goats during his lifetime. But most especially, Cleo cherished the time he was privileged to spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cleo was married to Laudra Josephine Snider on June 26, 1940 in Spelter City, OK. Cleo was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Laudra; his infant brother, Troy Powders, brothers Archie Powders and Johnny Powders; and his sister, Faye Fox. He is survived by his son Alvin Powders of Tulsa; a daughter, Kathy Henry and husband Tom of Henryetta; five grandchildren, Dennis Powders and wife Julie, Alan Powders, Tom A Henry and wife Shelly, Stephanie Hill and husband Charles, and Ron Sebo Henry and wife Sandy; 10 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; a brother, Max Powders and wife Betty of Springfield, MO; a sister, Leota Reed of Henryetta; a sister, Bonnie Wishert of Wharton, TX; by numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family, and many good friends. Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm and on Friday, June 20, from 8am until 8pm at Integrity Funeral Service. A funeral service for Cleo will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Church of the Nazarene in Henryetta with Mick Snider officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy. Pallbearers will be Alvin Powders, Alan Powders, Dennis Powders, Tom G. Henry, Tom A. Henry and Ron Sebo Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephanie Hill, Charles Hill, W.E. Snider, Max Powders and Kenny Powders.
