Connie Milfred "Dude" Burney, a longtime resident of Hoffman, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Henryetta at the age of 78. Dude was born to Beulah (Lindley) and Pierce Burney on October 21, 1936 in Hoffman Bottoms. Mr. Burney served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married Suzie Lee Bozarth in 1960. He was a mechanic for Otis Elevators for many years. After he retired, he worked for Tiger Mountain Pipeline, pumping oil wells and later he worked security at the Creek Nation Casino. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hoffman and was the mayor of Hoffman for years. He enjoyed camping with his family, discussing politics, playing poker and buying, selling and trading. Mr. Burney was preceded in death by his mother and father; a son, Arthur Burney, seven brothers; Mac, Jimmy, C. W. "Kink", Allen, Mervin, Cecil "Hooty" and Billy Jack. One sister, Norma Lee Gadbois, and two infant siblings. He is survived by his wife, Suzie Burney; two sisters, Ethel Owen & husband Kenny of Nixa, Missouri, Joanne Sessions of Okmulgee; two brothers, Pete Burney & wife Ruby of Hoffman, Herbert "LouLou" Burney & wife Becky of Oklahoma City; Three sons, James Burney of Hoffman, Larry Burney and companion Carolyn Herbert of Henryetta, and Billy & Kathy Burney of Hoffman; one daughter, Lesa & Ken Sims of Pendleton, Kentucky and one daughter-in-law, Linda Burney of Tiger Mountain. Ten grandchildren; Bill Burney; Karen Jefferson & husband Landon; Samantha Payne & husband Lyle; Tyler & Christopher Burney; Monica & Roger Vincent; Lacy Zachery; Patrick and Tasha Sims; James David Burney; and Cassie Gilmore. Thirteen great grandchildren; Whitney and Ashley Jefferson; Racer and Brianna Edwards; McKenzie, Jordan, and Alyssa Vincent; Logan, Callie & Abbie Zachery; Braden Williams, Lucas Gilmore, Patricia Sue Gilmore and Terry Gilmore; and Kendra Sims; Also one great-great grandchild, Maddix Lucero. Viewing will be on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 2 - 8 pm at Integrity Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Al Davis, Mark Beaver, Artie Skupien, Loyd McCarroll, Mike McCarroll, & Mark McCarroll. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Hoffman with Rev. Duke Britt, officiating. Interment will follow in Hoffman Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
