David Eugene Swanson, a cherished resident of Mounds, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on September 26, 1964, in Torrance, California, he was the son of Martha Jean (Brown) Swanson.
David honorably served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, earning an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he dedicated four years to law enforcement, serving as a police officer and contributing to the safety and well-being of his community. David was an associate pastor with Loving Hands Ministry for a time, running a recovery house. He also repaired communication infrastructure in disaster areas, climbing poles and running a crew. He moved into sales when he returned to Tulsa after his kidney began to fail. He never lost his desire to serve so he became a volunteer firefighter and overnight security guard. There wasn't a job that David wasn't willing to try.
On September 30, 2001, David married Lisa Leslie Spencer in Owasso, Oklahoma at the Owasso rodeo grounds under the bridal tree after the rodeo. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared passions. Trail rides with friends, learning to play guitar, acting as first responders and volunteer firefighters, attending the IFR and Cavalcade every year they could, proud members of the Owasso Round Up club, and many other shared experiences.
David's heart belonged to the land and the Lord. He found immense joy in farming and ranching on Faith Acres, his beloved home. His dedication to the land and the animals he cared for was a testament to his hardworking nature and deep connection to God's creatures and creation. He was always willing to help a neighbor.
David spent over 10 years on dialysis at Saint Francis Hospital where he formed a new family of dedicated nurses and technicians. He even became an ordained minister in order to provide services, such as weddings and funerals for his medical family. He supplied Black Rifle coffee so that they could have a decent cup of coffee on his dialysis days.
His second home was Faith Baptist Church of (North) Slick. He created strong bonds with his teen Sunday school class and referred to them as his kids. He loved watching them grow and mature into wonderful adults. He was blessed with wonderful friends in the church and looked forward to attending services. While in the hospital, he had to have someone connect him to the live stream on Sunday mornings.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Scott; his grandparents; Mart and Lucy Brown, his brother, Richard Shipley; his uncle, Charles Brown; and his aunt, Ida Jane "Diddy" Leftwich.
David leaves behind his wife, Lisa Swanson, of the home; his daughters, Heather Augestein and Kristy Stockwell (husband Jacob); his son, Michael Horton "Cowboy"; his grandchildren, Abigail Rose Stockwell, Jonathan Michael Stockwell, Michael Horton, Justin Riney, Cooper Augenstein, Maverick Augenstein, and Paisley Augenstein; his brother, Mark Scott; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
David's legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.
