Deroy Alexander Matthews, resident of Henryetta, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 in Henryetta, OK at the age of 85. He was born on January 20, 1927 in rural McIntosh County, OK to James Floyd Matthews & Dora Ann (Laffoon) Matthews. Deroy was a member of the Dewar United Pentecostal Church. He served the United States during WWII in the US Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Floyd Matthews and Dora Ann Matthews, his first wife, Myrtle, his son, Walter James Matthews, one brother, Delbert Matthews, two sisters, Imogene Nunn and June Nunn, and daughter-in-law, Evie Matthews. Deroy is survived by his wife June E. Matthews of the home; three sons, Jackie Matthews & wife Nelda of Ada, Oklahoma; Donald Matthews & wife Pam of Henryetta; Tommy Matthews Sr. of Woodward; Stepson, Joe Huffman & wife Deloris of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sister, Doris Matthews of Sapulpa; Sister-in-law, Virginia Matthews of Henryetta; Grandchildren, Justin Matthews, Nathan Matthews, Curtis Matthews, Brooke Smith, Tommy Matthews Jr., and Alex Matthews, Step grandchildren, Joey Huffman, Matthew Huffman, and Annette Evans, 16 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Justin Matthews, Nathan Matthews, Curtis Matthews, Brooke Smith, Tommy Matthews Jr., Alex Matthews, and Jonathan Smith. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at Dewar United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Matthew Martin, officiating. Interment will follow at New Sonora Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Crystal Springs Retirement Center in Henryetta.
