Donald Jackson Mccullar

Donald Jackson McCullar, age 76, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, in Dewey, Oklahoma. Born on February 24, 1947, in Hitchita, Oklahoma, to the late Henry and Helen Lee (Hale) McCullar, Donald's life was a testament to the values of love, kindness, and family.

Donald's journey began in the small town of Hitchita, where he was raised in a close-knit community that shaped his early years. Donald's heart found its match when he married Joan Justice in August 1966 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life founded on love and shared until Joan's passing on March 3, 2021.

Donald's work as a custodian for Southern Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was more than a job; it was a ministry of service. He took pride in his work and was a familiar, friendly face to the church community for many years. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and his faith.

Music and faith were intertwined in Donald's life. He and his family traveled as a singing group, sharing their talents with various Free Will Baptist Churches across the state. These moments of harmony and fellowship were among his most cherished memories.

An avid sports fan, Donald's enthusiasm for football was unwavering, especially when it came to cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball and water skiing, embracing the thrill of the game and the splash of the water. These activities reflected his adventurous spirit and love for life.

Above all, Donald cherished the time spent with his family. Whether it was a quiet afternoon or a lively family gathering, he was happiest surrounded by his loved ones. His grandchildren, in particular, were the light of his life, and he took every opportunity to express his love and pride in their accomplishments.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Joan, and his brothers Butch and Bob McCullar. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will be honored and cherished forever.

Donald's legacy lives on through his children: Lisa Dawn Wilson and her husband Terry of Oolagah, Oklahoma; Kristi Gail Carter and her husband Terry of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Donald Travis McCullar and his wife Marrianna of Catoosa, Oklahoma; and Jolee Cheryln McCullar and her significant other Kristin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his brother, Tom McCullar of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His love extended to his nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Riveted Church, 14765 North 52nd West Ave, Skiatook, Oklahoma 74070 with Reverend Jim Straton officiating.
