Donald Edward "Rusty" Thompson Jr., a resident of Henryetta, was born on November 1, 1962 in Okmulgee, OK to Donald Edward Thompson, Sr. and Joan Evelyn Carriage. Rusty passed from this life on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in rural Okmulgee county at the age of 48 years, 8 months and 8 days. Rusty grew up and attended school in Henryetta, graduating from Henryetta High School in 1983, where he lettered in football, track, and basketball. Rusty was quite an athlete, receiving numerous awards for his participation on the track team. Following high school, Rusty worked with Anchor Glass where he served as a Hot End Production foreman. Rusty served approximately 20 years with Anchor Glass. He later worked as an equipment operator. Rusty loved to watch Nascar, thoroughly enjoyed fishing and loved all kinds of boating and water sports. He was a member of the Dewar First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by 2 grandmothers, Almeda Smith and Mary Thompson; by 2 grandfathers, Floyd Thompson and Clarence Carriage; a cousin, Allen Carriage; an aunt, Clara Grant; and by two uncles, Mark Carriage and Manson Thompson. Rusty is survived by his mother, Joan Thompson of the home; his father, Donald E. Thompson, Sr. and wife Annette Thompson of Schulter; 3 half-brothers, Wendell Allen Thompson and wife Candi of Pleasant Valley, Gerald David Thompson of Coweta, and Kevin Don Thompson of Schulter; by a special cousin, Terry Carriage and wife Christy and children Hayden, Alley and Ashley of Beggs, by numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews; and by many good friends. A memorial service for Rusty will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 2:00pm at Schulter Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Dell officiating. A burial will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
