Elizabeth West Townsend, 82 years of age was born on June 29, 1939, at Claremore Indian hospital in Claremore Oklahoma. She went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2021, at her home surrounded with love by her family.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Sallie Spaniard Gouge and stepdaughter of Albert Alley Gouge. She grew up in the Hanna Oklahoma area and attended school at the old Trenton Church and Eufaula boarding school.
Elizabeth fondly known as “Liz” was the oldest of ten children, she was of the Deer Clan and Weogufkee Tribal Town and was a member of Wainwright First Baptist Church. Elizabeth loved being involved with her church and teaching Women’s Sunday school and helping in the kitchen and with vacation bible school. Liz moved to Okmulgee in 1977 where she made a home with her three daughters Cynthia, Anne and Johnna and she stayed involved with their school activities especially sports which she was an avid sports fan.
Among Liz’s favorite teams were the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma City Thunder. She could often be found watching games on her big screen tv which she would often say was the best seat in the house. Some of her favorite times were shared with her family watching the bedlam games and feasting on a pot of chili.
The loves of her life were her grandchildren Lyndsey Reyes, Autumn Smith, Chiler Edwards, Kiah Smith, Elias Smith, Emree Criner, and her great grands Toni, Malia, and Mateo Reyes and Asher Swayze.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Sallie Spaniard Gouge, Brothers Earnest, Wilford, Wilbur and William Gouge, Sisters, Peggy DeeAnn Gouge, and Nancy Gouge Deere, Nephews Stephen Albert Gouge, Michael B. Wood and Delsin Gouge and one grandson Kiah Fyecv Smith.
She is survived by Sisters Kristine Gouge of Houston TX, Helen Gouge of Wetumka OK, Evelyn Wood of Okmulgee Ok. Three daughters Cynthia Smith and Husband Mike, and children Autumn and Elias of Morris OK, Anne Townsend-Edwards and son Chiler of Glenpool Ok, and Johnna Criner and husband Clint and daughter Emree of Twin Hills. Grandaughter Lyndsey Reyes and Husband Anthony, and children Toni, Malia and Mateo of the home in Okmulgee And a host of family and friends.
View and visitation for Elizabeth will be on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4 PM till 6 PM at Integrity Funeral Service in Henryetta, Oklahoma. A wake service will be held from 6 PM till 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 2 PM at the Weogufkee Indian Baptist Church in Hanna, Oklahoma with Pastor Kevin Wadsworth and Reverend Jesse Bible officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Soloman Family Cemetery in Hanna.
Serving as casket bearers will be Matt Harley, Nocv Francis, Raymond Francis, Jeff Smith, Anthony Reyes and Josh Harley. Honorary casket bearers will be Mateo Reyes, Chiler Edwards, Elias Smith, Leonard Gouge, and Charles Harley.
Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service, 410 East Trudgeon, Henryetta, Oklahoma.
