Erma Lois Carter

Erma Lois Carter, a longtime resident of Dewar, passed away Saturday, January 18th, 2025 in Dewar at the age of 88. She was born August 31, 1936 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to Chester Ray Cloud and Annette (Carter) Cloud.

She married Richard D. Carter in 1954 in Spiro, Oklahoma. She was a longtime member of Dewar First Baptist Church where she was a decades long nursery worker, helping with funeral dinners and working as church secretary.

She excelled at caring for her family and through her faith and dedication to God was very accepting of what life threw at her. She was a great cook, specializing in her spaghetti. She tolerated weeks of camping and fishing with Richard and the kids on yearly trips to Red River.

Beside her work at the church she worked for many years at Dewar Public Schools as Dewar Elementary Teacher's Aide and Secretary.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester & Annette Cloud, her husband Richard, a son, Phillip D. Carter, a grandson, Austin Carter, two sisters, Opal Kennedy and Doris Moore.

She is survived by three children: Richard Carroll Carter & wife Diane; Alice McGowen & husband Mike; Eric Carter & wife Denise; Grandchildren: Ryan Carter, Savannah Carter, Mitch McGowen & wife Olivia, Malia Fields & husband Ki, Micah McGowen & wife Kimberly and Brianna Holland & husband Brandon; Thirteen grandchildren; Also by a host of friends, other relatives and church family.

At Erma's request the casket will be closed at all times. Friends are welcome to come sign her book from 5-8 Sunday, January 26th, 2025 at Integrity Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be, Ryan Carter, Mitch McGowen, Micah McGowen, Brandon Holland, Gabriel Ki Fields, Brody Johnson, Jerry Beale, and Camden Ross.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 27th, 2025 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Wells officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
