Freda Fern Wesson

October 24, 1916 — June 19, 2011

Freda Fern Wesson was born to J. W. "Bunk" and EvaLena (Bailey) Fimple in Leedey, Oklahoma, on October 24, 1916, the youngest of six children. She passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011, after a month long illness. Freda accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 12 and served Him faithfully all her life. She and her husband joined the Assemblies of God in Las Animas, CO. She was involved in almost all aspects of church ministries and activities, teaching Sunday School, Children's Church, Vacation Bible Schools, wherever there was a need. As a young mother, she felt called to be a missionary and turned that call into making her family and her church her mission field and especially by becoming a promoter of BGMC. Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge (BGMC) teaches children about missionaries and about giving their offerings to help support missionaries around the world. Her guitar was also used in church ministry and to entertain the residents at the nursing homes where she worked during all of her adult years. Freda worked in the field of nursing, especially with the elderly, from 1957 until 1986, with fourteen of those years at Fountain View Manor in Henryetta. She was always an artistic person and in her forties added cake decorating and art lessons and began a second lifetime career of painting, on canvas as well as rocks, wood, saw blades, and anything else she thought needed a picture. After moving to Henryetta in 1972 she became active in the Henryetta Art Association and was a member for many years. Preceding her in death were her husband of 73 years, Amos R. Wesson, her parents, siblings, son-in-law Jerry C. Hillyer and daughter-in-law Bonnie Ruth (Adams) Wesson. Survivors include her children, CoeLena and Donald Hickam, Coquille, Oregon; Carroll Wesson, Henryetta; Frances and Paul Brooks, Nowata, OK; Betty Hillyer, Buena Vista, Colorado; and Ruby Wesson, Henryetta; seventeen grandchildren and spouses; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nephews and nieces, very special neighbors Nancy and Doug Wadley and a host of many other wonderful friends at church and all over town. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at the First Assembly of God Church in Henryetta (1201 South C Street) with Rev. Notchie Twist officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Viewing will be from noon - 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 8am - 8pm on Thursday. Family will greet friends from 6-8 on Thursday evening at Integrity Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family would like to have donations given to her special mission: BGMC, (Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge) Christian Assembly of God Church, PO Box 230, Schulter, OK 74460
