Gene Loyd Hedrick, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 7, 2023, in his hometown of Henryetta, Oklahoma, at the age of 79. Born on January 30, 1944, to Emmett and Ila (Tackett) Hedrick, Gene was a lifelong resident of Henryetta and a pillar of the community.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marilyn Hope Hedrick, brother, Billy Hedrick, sister, Deanie Bookout, sister, Faye Reed, and brother, Randy Watteau.
Gene was a loving and devoted father to his five children: Brent Hedrick and wife Kim of Florida; Wade Hedrick and wife Asha of Henryetta; Brandi Brown and husband Eddie of Henryetta; Brian Austin and wife Carol of Denver, Colorado; and Kristie Wittman of Okmulgee. He was also a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Gene is survived by his sister, June Moore, and step-mother, Mary Hedrick, as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
Gene was an entrepreneur who owned and operated Henryetta Furniture and Henryetta Carpet and Tile. He also worked for the glass plant in Henryetta, where he obtained many lifelong friends, he drove a Semi for many years as well.
Gene was a family man, a jokester, and enjoyed working in carpentry. He devoted many years to raising his grandchildren, ensuring they were surrounded by love and support.
In addition to his work, Gene was a caring, giving man who made everyone feel special. He served in peacetime in the United States Air Force, where he developed a strong sense of duty and commitment to his country. Gene's interests extended beyond his work and service, as he was known for his friendly, funny, and loving nature. He had a unique ability to bring laughter and joy to any situation, making him a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew him.
Gene's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry on his spirit.
Viewing will be from 4-8 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Integrity Chapel with Rev. Ryan Wells, officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
