Gerald Gene Long

Gerald Gene Long entered eternal rest and peace Sunday, February 23rd, 2014 in Dewar at the age of 67. He was born April 6, 1947 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Rev. James Eugene Long and Norma Jean Long, who called him "Jerry" even though later in years he chose "Gene". Jerry had many jobs in his life but his love was the freedom he felt as a truck driver for forty years along side his wife Nancy Long. He enjoyed restoring cars but his passion was his horses and cattle. Whether you knew him as "Jerry" or "Gene", you knew his family meant everything to him as he showed by going to School Plays, Band Performances, Track Meets, Ballgames, the back pasture to ride horses, taking you for a ride across country in his semi, riding motorcycles, fishing, or driving his boat on the lake. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Long, his grandmother Bertha Dosier and his uncle Claude E. Long. Jerry served honorably in the US Army February 1964 through December 1966. He was decorated with a National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal which means he was not only a hero to his family but to every on in the United States of America. He is survived by his parents, Rev. James Eugene and Norma Jean Long of McAlester; Daughters, Lana McPherson & husband Billy of McAlester; Jo Long & husband Bob Alberding of Sapulpa; Son, Gary Long of McAlester; Son, Joseph Nixon; Two brothers, Robert Long & wife Margaret of California; Timothy Long & wife Vicky of South Korea; Grandchildren, Matthew Dugan, Tony Dugan, Ryan Byington, & Alyshia Byington; Son, Howard "Dink" Langston & wife Cheryl of Ryal; Son, Delton Long; Daughter, Shannon Langston McMinn of Coffeyville, Kansas; Grandchildren, Steve Wilkerson, Judy Capps, Libby Kaler, Sarah Sebring, Dustin Richards & Cheyenne Richards; Numerous great grandchildren, other extended family & many friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00pm at Integrity Chapel with Rev. James Eugene Long and Curt Russell officiating. Interment will follow at New Sonora Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Don Robison, Robert Long, Bob Alberding, Howard "Dink" Langston, Matthew Dugan, and Dustin Richards. Honorary pallbearers are Timothy Long, Bob Alberding, Sr., James Russell and Billy Russell. The family has designated the American Cancer Society, P.O. Family visitation will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm. Viewing will be held at Integrity on Thursday from 2pm until 8pm, on Friday from 8am until 8pm and on Saturday morning prior to service time.
