Homer Allen Hefner

November 11, 1921 — March 25, 2014

Homer Allen Hefner, a former longtime Henryetta resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 in Beggs, at the age of 92. Homer was born on November 11, 1921 in Davidson, Oklahoma to Henry Hefner and Laura Hardester Hefner. Homer grew up the sixth of eight children and the youngest male and the proud son of a Davidson area Baptist preacher, cotton farmer and carpenter. Following his graduation from high school, and after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he trained as a pilot, Homer married Sue Ann Mitchell in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He and Sue Ann moved to Arkansas so that he could attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Homer graduated from Arkansas/Fayetteville with a degree in agriculture. While still in Arkansas, Homer was employed as the associate/county agent for Ashley County where he developed many lasting relationships with the farmers of that area. After his county agent position, Homer and SueAnn and family moved to California where he worked for Northrup Aviation building jet engines. After several years in California, they returned and Homer decided to become a school teacher. Homer began teaching in Marshall, Arkansas and then later served as a principal in Whitt Springs, Arkansas. In 1974, Homer and family moved to the Ryal area and Homer was employed by Hanna Public Schools. Homer ended his teaching career in Preston and, at age 62, retired from public education. He touched hundreds of lives as a gifted educator. Homer's wife SueAnn passed away in August of 1975. He later married Estella Creeson and they made their home in Henryetta. Homer loved to fish and was especially happy in being involved in his many family gatherings. Most of all, Homer loved his family. He was a model husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by the many people who knew and loved him. Homer is preceded in death by his mother and father; his two brothers, 3 sisters, 2 nephews and a niece. He is survived by his two daughters, Jaquita Hefner Hamilton and husband Ben of Beggs and Pamela Hefner Sharit of Beggs; a son, Alan Hefner of Reno, Nevada; by 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; by numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Viewing will be held at Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from noon until 8pm and on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 8am until noon.
