Petrie, a former resident of Maud, Oklahoma and Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life on October 21, 2012 in Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 89. "Gene" was born on November 8, 1922 in Maud, Oklahoma to Horace Thomas Childers and Susan Elizabeth Pierce Childers. Gene was raised and grew up in Maud, Oklahoma where she attended school. She graduated from Maud High School. Shortly after graduation, Gene married the love of her life, Jack G. Petrie on June 15, 1940 in Maud, Oklahoma. They lived in Seminole, Oklahoma until Jack joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. While Jack was serving in the military Gene lived back near her family in Maud. Gene and Jack remained happily married for 68 years until Jack's death in 2008. Gene was a longtime member of Baptist Churches including Golden Hills Baptist Church in Turley and Calvary Baptist Church in Tulsa, where she served both churches in the capacity of treasurer. Gene and Jack lived in Tulsa from 1950 until Gene moved to Ardmore to be near her daughter earlier in 2012. Gene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack who died April 9, 2008; by her daughter, Donna Daniels; a great grandson, Daniel Brown; and by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Scifres and husband Jack of Ardmore; a son, Jack G. Petrie and wife Donna of Estes Park, Colorado; by 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson; an extended church family and many good friends. Viewing and visitation will be held at Shurden Funeral Home, 411 W. Division Street in Henryetta on Wednesday, October 24 from 10am until 8pm. A funeral service for Gene will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the Chapel at Shurden Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately at Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Kelly Brown, Chico Cseay, Byron Shen, C.J. Daniels, Ky Shen, Cody Sells, Tyler Davis, and Aaron Petrie.
