Rev. Jack A. Burgess, a resident of Hominy passed away Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 in Hominy at the age of 79. He was born February 23, 1939 in Patton Missouri to Lester Albert Burgess & Ann (Crites) Burgess. He lived in Henryetta for many years and had moved to Beebe, Arkansas and after his health began to decline He and Vesta moved to Hominy, Oklahoma to be near his children.
Bro. Burgess felt his call to preach at the age of 14 and at 16 preached his first revival. He continued with passion in the calling God placed on him until the end. He married the love of his life, Vesta Lee Campbell, October 14, 1957. That bond remained strong for 60 years.
Bro. Burgess served many positions at First Jesus Name Church of Weedpatch, California before launching his first pastorialship in Oklahoma City in 1964. He pastored seven churches with his last being Apostolic House of Prayer in Henryetta in 2003. He evangelized all over the United States and parts of Canada for many years. Along with pastoring, and evangelizing, he mentored several young ministers in prayer, study, and the presentation of Truth. At his retirement he preached occasionally when and where asked. His passion was preaching the Apostolic message and loving people to God.
Bro. Burgess was a comedian! He loved to make people laugh by telling and making up funny stories. His humor and desire to make people smile continued right up to the end.
Bro. Burgess's life not only revolved around the church, but his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were his joy! His brother and sisters his foundation, his nieces and nephews, his sunshine. He loved BIG!
His life was a true representation of God's word! He valued each and every friendship and again, loved BIG!
Even after Alzheimer's wiped memories and sometimes familiar faces, his wit remained quick and on point. He remembered God was the source of his strength, comfort and a place of eternal rest. God's word was embedded in his heart and remained clear.
