McCroskey, a longtime resident of Henryetta, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Talihina at the age of 87. James was born, October 4, 1924 in Dewar, Oklahoma to Emza Joseph McCroskey and Matilda (Payne) McCroskey. James attended Henryetta Public Schools and Okmulgee State Tech, earning a degree in auto mechanics and repair. He married Sarah Arvella Snow, June 18, 1942 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He is a Veteran of WWII serving with the United States Navy. He worked over 30 years with Cunningham Brothers Oil Co. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Arvella McCroskey of the home; Three sons, Joseph D. McCroskey of Burleson, Texas; Larry W. McCroskey of Tulsa; Gary L. McCroskey of Henryetta; Eight grandchildren; Seven great-grandchildren; One great-great grandchild; One brother-in-law, Jack Packwood; Two sisters-in-law, Erma Porter and Helen McCroskey; A host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 5 - 8 pm and Sunday Noon - 8 pm. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Westlawn Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Savelle and Bro. Joseph D. McCroskey, officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Naval Honors Team. Services are under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
