James Bennett Spurlock

James Bennett "Jimmy" Spurlock, a lifetime resident of Dewar was born September 25, 1935 in Henryetta to Tilden J. Spurlock Sr., and Bessie Beatrice (Dodge) Spurlock. He passed away peacefully at his home in Dewar on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the age of 75. He was a graduate of Dewar High School. He married Katherine Jones September 23, 1955 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Jimmy was an avid fisherman and was unmistakeably one of the biggest OU fans ever. His passion was his family and keeping them close and near him. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine Spurlock of the home, Two daughters, Kathy Dunham & husband Jay of Henryetta Jamie Smith & husband Rev. Darin Smith of Glenpool Eight grandchildren, Johnny Brown of Henryetta Jerrod Brown & wife Julie of Broken Arrow Samuel Freistedt & wife Amy of Morris Crystal Ruth of Henryetta Brittanee Smith of Henryetta Hadyn Smith of Glenpool Darin Smith II of Glenpool Ellee Smith of Glenpool Three great-grandchildren, Bentley Brown of Broken Arrow Allee Thomas of Henryetta Lincoln Freistedt of Morris Two brothers, Billy J. Spurlock & wife Patsy of Henryetta Tilden J. Spurlock, Jr. of Dewar Two sisters, Beulah Rutland & husband Rev. Floyd Rutland of Dewar Bonnie Pulliam of Petaluma, California As well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Pallbearers will be, Johnny Brown, Jerrod Brown, Samuel Freistedt, Darin Smith II, Hadyn Smith, & Ron "Ned" Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jimmy D. Spurlock, Bill Spurlock, Danne Spurlock, Lewis Bible, Jr., Dennis Bible, & Johnny Hicks. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday and 8am - 8pm Friday, 8am - Noon on Saturday. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Westlawn Cemetery with Rev. Darin Smith & Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Services are under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
