Janet Lorraine Chowins

July 26, 1962 — May 19, 2021

Janet Lorraine “Laurie” Chowins of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away
suddenly on May 9, 2021 in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 58.

Laurie was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Kenneth Gene Chowins and Esther
Faye Chowins on July 26, 1962. She graduated Shawnee Mission East
High School in Prairie Village, Kansas and attended the University of
Kansas in Lawrence Kansas. She was previously married to Walter
Hayworth of Lawrence, Kansas. ​

Professionally, Laurie was known for her loyalty and strong work ethic. She
held several positions during her working life including Blue Ridge Plaza
Animal Clinic in the Kansas City area when she passed.

Laurie looked forward to spending time with her friends and loved ones at
the lake and cheering on her hometown sports teams among other things.
She played the flute, clarinet, and piano. Laurie also had a passion for
fundraising for charities, especially those assisting children of need. As a
final showing of charity Laurie arranged for her organs to be donated so that
others may live.

Laurie is preceded in death by her grandparents, her sister-in-law Laura as
well as numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Laurie is survived by her parents Kenneth and Esther Chowins of Prairie
Village, Kansas, by her brother, Kenneth, Jr., her brother David and his wife
Rita, by her niece Audrey her husband Ben, by her nephews Grant and Levi,
by her great-niece Jamie and her great nephew Ryan as well as numerous
other beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. She is also survived
by countless friends including her boyfriend of more than a decade, Charlie.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 22, 2021 at
Integrity Funeral Services in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at
Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages support for the American Heart
Association and charities supporting children in need. ​

Laurie’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the quick thinking of
those who were with Laurie when she collapsed, to the paramedics who
responded and to the doctors, nurses and other medical professionals at
Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
