Jimmie Dean McGowin, a longtime resident of Dewar, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the age of 57. Jimmie was born on March 2, 1961 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Arvin McGowin and Virginia Faye Stidman McGowin.
Jimmie grew up attending Dewar Public Schools and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Jimmie married Renee Love on September 27, 1981 in Dewar, Oklahoma and they remained happily married for 37 years until his death. Jimmie worked in maintenance at OSU Okmulgee. Jimmie was a strong family man and he will be remembered fondly by the many who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; two sisters, Sally Pollard and Cathy Strong; a nephew, Token Spears; and a nephew Arvin Lee McGowin II.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Renee McGowin of the home; two daughters, Tabitha Russell Thomas of Henryetta and Christina Reynolds and husband Matthew of Bryant; four grandchildren, Zachary Russell, Dalton Thomas, Brayden Reynolds, and Aubree Thomas; a son-in-law, Derrick Thomas of Henryetta; brother; Arvin Lee McGowin and wife Faye of Dewar; Gary McGowin and wife Ann of Dewar; Johnny McGowin of Dewar; Ronnie McGowin and wife Christy of Dewar; David Thomas and wife Teresa of Dewar; Vicky Szarwinski of Dewar; and Dana Wells and husband Carl of Dewar; as well as other extended family and many good friends.
Viewing for Jimmie will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 6pm until 8pm and on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from noon until 8:00pm.
A funeral service is set for 10:00am on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Wells, Rev. Scott Wolfe, and Rev. Suzie Stephens officiating. Interment will be private with family only at the McGowin Family Cemetery in Weleetka under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Randy Campbell, Ethan Been, Zachary Russell, Gary McGowin II, Chad McGowin, Ricky J. Sturman, Matt Reynolds. Jeremy Shatswell, T.J. Pollard, Jason Williamson, Hunter Williamson, and John Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Dee Russell, Bill Russell, and Eric (Ping) Cunningham.
