Joe Shoun, a longtime resident of Henryetta, passed away at his home on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the age of 91. Joe was born on August 26, 1921 in Dewar, Oklahoma to James Shoun and Myrtle Drake Shoun. Joe grew up and attended school in Dewar. After graduating from high school, Joe entered the US Army where he served for 4 years before his honorable discharge in 1945. After military service, Joe married Elizabeth Ann Lahey on April 29, 1949 in Henryetta. They remained happily married until she passed away in 2004. Joe worked with American Saint Gobain as an industrial electrician. He retired in 1975 after 28 years of faithful service. Joe was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, and was a longtime member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. He served as a founder and a past president of the AFL-CIO Union #10 in Okmulgee. Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father; by his wife, Elizabeth; and by his son, Bob Shoun. He is survived by a son, James Shoun and wife Valerie of Tulsa; a daughter, Ila Kolander and husband Keith of Jasper, Arkansas; by 7 grandchildren, Robbie Bunyard and husband Brian of Schulter, Sam Shoun of Tulsa, Jeannette Licht of Schulter, Michelle Beckman of Cuero, TX, Michael Shoun of Henryetta, David Licht of Manford, and Chris Turner of Tulsa; by 10 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren; by sisters, Mary Jeannette Forsyth of Mt. Vernon, MO, Linda Been of Tiger Mountain, Kathline Ivy of Sapulpa, Linda Kelley of Sapulpa, and Barbara Shoun of Tulsa; as well as other extended family and many good friends. The family has designated St. Michaels Catholic Church as an appropriate entity for memorial contributions. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 4pm until 8pm and on Monday from 8am until 8pm. A funeral service for Joe will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Phung officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
