John Lee Britt

John Lee Britt, a longtime resident of the Hoffman and Dewar area, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in Henryetta at the age of 75. John was born on May 1, 1942 in Hanna, Oklahoma to Charlie Monroe Britt and Ishmael (Jones) Britt.

John grew up in Hoffman, Oklahoma attending elementary school there. He later attended Dewar Public Schools and graduated from Dewar High School. Following high school, John began an extensive educational pursuit. He first attended Connors State College, and Northeastern Oklahoma State University before earning his bachelors degree in education at East Central State College in Ada. John then went to work within his masters degree programs with a specialization in history. After his formal education, John began a rewarding career as a school teacher and principal at Schulter Public Schools. He later taught and coached basketball at Wilson Public Schools, Haleyville Public Schools, Agra Public Schools, and Gypsy School.

John married the love of his life, Brenda Druecilla Maxwell on October 3, 1962 in Hoffman, Oklahoma. They remained happily enjoined for 55 years until his death. John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hoffman for many years. He later attended Tulledega Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved the game of basketball, where he clearly touched many student's lives as their coach and friend. John was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and he will be remembered by the many people who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his two daughters, Teresa Britt and Tammy Britt; his mother and father, his five brothers, Charles Britt Jr., William Britt, Kenneth Britt, Curtis Britt, Jack Britt, and by his two sisters, Lillie Shockley and Mary McCarroll.

John is survived by his wife, Druecilla Britt of the home; by two daughters, Trina Mitchell of Henryetta and Tracie Joiner and husband Raymond of Seminole; by two very special people who were foster children to John and Druecilla, Heather Burkheart and Josh Taylor; by 11 grandchildren, Scott Wittman, Josh Wittman, Matthew Joiner, Bud Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Brett Mitchell, Sommer Mitchell, Thomas Mitchell, Christie Kimmons, Alicia Ortman, and Joe Mitchell; by 10 great grandchildren, Zoe Wittman, Jaxon Wittman, Jenson Wittman, Maverick Boldng, Tyler Bolding, Amaris Ortman, Joe Junior Mitchell, Jaxson Mitchell, Owen Mitchell, Dusty Riddle, and Baby Wittman "on the way"; by two brothers, Ira Britt and wife Carolyn of Dewar and Donald "Duke" Britt and wife Annabelle of Dewar; one sister, Linda Burney of Dewar; by numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and many good friends.

Viewing for John will be held from noon until 8:00pm on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Integrity Funeral Service.

A funeral service for John will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Integrity Chapel with Rev. Dale Huckabay officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Hoffman Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Wittman, Josh Wittman, Bud Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Brett Mitchell, and Joe Mitchell. Honorary bearers will be Thomas Mitchell, Ira Britt, Duke Britt, Linda Burney, Keith Wood, Ronnie Stanton, James Maxwell, Dan Maxwell, Jeff Maxwell, and Michael Maxwell.
