John Thomas Counterman, a resident of Henryetta, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Okmulgee at the age of 70. John was born in Henryetta on July 11, 1941 to Howard Counterman, Sr. and Ocie Mildred Prudence Stubbs Counterman. He grew up in Henryetta and attended Henryetta Public Schools. John joined the U.S. Navy and served for several years and was honorably discharged in 1964. Following his military service, John enrolled in school in Fresno, California and graduated in 1978. John later worked for Pacific Gas and Electric where he served as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years before he retired in 2003. John married Doris Stidman on June 20, 2005 in Clearview, Oklahoma. John is preceded in death by his mother and father; by three brothers, Bob, Bill and Howard Counterman, Jr.; and by one daughter, Karen Counterman. He is survived by his wife, Doris Counterman of the home in Henryetta; by five children, Gaybe Watkins and husband Kenny of Choctaw, Bobbye Frye and husband Curly of Schulter, George Frye and wife Susan of Pharoah, Will Frye, Jr. of Pharoah, and Mark Frye and wife Kisha of Henryetta; by one brother, Larry Joe Counterman of Wilson; by a sister, Mary Gray of Beggs; and by 10 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joe Counterman, Curly Rhine, George Frye, Doug Kidwell, Brandon Gryder, and Kenny Watkins. A funeral service for John will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:00am at the Apostolic House of Prayer in Henryetta with Rev. Lee Nuckols officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday from 8am to 8pm and Friday from 8am to 8pm at the funeral home.
