John Wesley "Johnny" Powell, 87, a retired Machine Operator for PPG, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Powell resided in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He was born July 19, 1921 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas the son of John Wesley Powell and Susie (Mizel) Powell . He served in the US Army during World War II having attained the rank of Tech 4. He was enlisted on 10/31/1942 at Little Rock, Arkansas, and was discharged on 1/11/1946 at Camp Chafee, Arkansas. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Johnny is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Powell, his parents, his sister, Dorothy Griffith, Brother, Tom Powell, and by a baby sister, also by two step sons, Robert and David Kelley and by one step sister, Louise Greb. He is survived by his 5 brothers, Danny Powell & wife Sue of Henryetta; George Powell & wife Dolly of Henryetta, Billy Powell & wife Claudette of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Raymond Powell & wife Sandra of New Blaine, Arkansas, Carl Powell of Paris, Arkansas, 3 sisters, Evelyn Smith of Mountainburg, Arkansas, Jackie Noland of Paducah, Kentucky, and Susie Stoval of Paris, Arkansas, 2 step sisters, Stella Mae Koredte of Scranton, Arkansas, and Edna Shumaway & husband Bill of Paris, Arkansas, 2 step brothers, Eugene Greb & wife Margie of Nowata, Oklahoma, and Leon Greb of Keifton, Oklahoma, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 6/3/2009 at 2:00 PM at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta, with Stacy Powell and Howard Hobbs officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW as well as the US Army.
