June Elizabeth Matthews, a resident of Henryetta passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 in Henryetta at the age of 87. She was born September 9, 1928 in Henryetta to Samuel Daniel Hammack and Pearl Elizabeth (Nation) Hammack.
She was a graduate of Okmulgee High School and attended college in San Antonio, Texas. She married Garland Huffman on June 21, 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska. After his death in 1973, she married Deroy Matthews on June 17, 1975 in Henryetta. She worked for David Wilemon Oil Co. as secretary for 15 years, retiring in 1990.
She had resided in Lincoln, Nebraska for 15 years, Dewar, Oklahoma for 2 years and in rural Henryetta for 25 years before moving to Crystal Springs Retirement Center until Deroy's death.
She was a longtime member of the Dewar United Pentecostal Church where she was a faithful servant working as Sunday School Secretary for many years as well as other various capacities. June's main love and goal in life was living for the Lord and sharing his love and Gospel with everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel & Pearl Hammack, her first husband, Garland Huffman, her second husband, Deroy Matthews, a daughter-in-law, Evie Matthews, brothers, Johnny Hammack, Guy Hammack & wife Lucille, sisters, Ethel Ann Shew & husband Bill, Willene Crossland & husband Al.
She is survived by five sons:
Joe Huffman, Sr. & wife Deloris of Lincoln, Nebraska;
Nathan Lee Huffman of Vancouver, Canada;
Jackie Matthews & wife Nelda of Ada, Oklahoma;
Donald Matthews & wife Pam of Henryetta;
Tommy Matthews, Sr. of Woodward, Oklahoma;
Grandchildren: Annette Huffman Evans & husband Stuart, Joey Huffman & wife Karyn, Matthew Huffman & wife Stephanie, Justin Matthews, Nathan Matthews & wife Susie, Curtis Matthews, Brooke Matthews Smith & husband Jonathan, Tommy Matthews, Jr. & Jimmie, & Alex Matthews. Also by several great grandchildren.
A sister, Ruby Isaksson & husband Egon of Hope, British Columbia, Canada;
A sister-in-law, Margaret Hammack of Dewar,
A sister-in-law, Virgina Mattews of Henreytta.
As well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved church family.
Viewing will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 2-8pm, and Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 8am-Noon at Integrity Funeral Service.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Dewar United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Matthew Martin & Rev. Gregg Joki, officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
