Leroy “Lee” Winn passed away April 14th at the age of 78 in McAlester, Ok, due to complications from Covid 19. Lee was the son of Kenneth & Celeste Winn, born on April 5, 1943 in Okmulgee, Ok. He was brought up in Wilson Ok, attending school in Wilson, and later attending college at Connors State, NSU and the University of Tulsa.
He married Nancy Dyer on May 19, 1971 in Tahlequah, Ok. They lived 13 years in Alaska where he was the principal of Homer Schools. They moved back to the lower 48 spending time in Paris, TX, Shawnee OK & Muskogee OK. For the past several months, Mitchell Manor in McAlester has been his place of residence.
Lee was a member of the Wilson Community Church in Wilson, OK. During his life Lee has served as a principal, a preacher, bible study leader, Sunday school teacher and a mentor to his friends and family. Lee enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, basketball, bird hunting, fishing, and supporting his nieces, nephews and friends at all types of sporting events. Lee also enjoyed and took a great interest in telling others about Jesus and being a witness.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Celeste Winn, brothers Don Winn and Jimmy Winn of Okmulgee.
Lee is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Winn, son, Jon Paul Winn of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and granddaughter Darby Dae Whitehouse of California, brother, Kenneth Winn of Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM at The Wilson Community Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Crews, officiating. Interment will follow at Salt Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
