Linda Carol (Berkey) Hammer, 69, passed away on January 14, 2020 in Henryetta with her family by her side.
She was born on January 22, 1950 in Wetumka, OK to Gene and Laura Berkey. The family lived in Dewar until they bought a place in 1959 in Wetumka along the North Canadian River. She loved that river and it was there that her best childhood memories were made.
In 1967, she attended a basketball game at the Dewar gym. Working the popcorn machine in the concession stand that night was a “cute boy with a square head” named Raymond Hammer. He caught her eye and captured her heart so much so that she ended up finishing out her high school years at Dewar just to be near him. They married December 29, 1970 and had their only child in 1971.
The family moved to Kansas in 1977. Although she thought the world of her friends and enjoyed having her own floral shop, Oklahoma was always her home and so they made the move back in 1994.
Linda loved the Lord, her family and was a huge animal lover. It was nothing to see raccoons, possums and squirrels right along with all the dogs and cats that just showed up. She was a small lady but her heart was huge. She loved gardening, mowing and just being outdoors and near the water.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Laura Berkey, and her in-laws, Raymond and Margaret Hammer.
Linda leaves behind her loving husband of 49 years, Raymond Dean of the home.
A daughter, Rae Lynn Hammer of Henryetta.
Granddaughter, Avaree Hammer and boyfriend, Tyler Jack.
A great grandson due in June that she was excited to meet.
A very special lady that was like a daughter to her, Debi Collins of Okmulgee, OK.
Sister Donna McGuire and husband LC of Hoffman.
Brother Terry Berkey and wife Lorri of Sherman, TX.
Sister and brother in laws, Mary and Preston Smith of Muskogee and Anna Bell and Duke Britt of Dewar.
Also by many nieces, nephews and cousins she loved dearly.
