Mary Neomai (George) Smith Gilliam

Mary Gilliam, a resident of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Gore at the age of 81. Mary was born on November 23rd, 1934 in Darnell, Arkansas to Duke George and Georgia Neomai Sorrels. Mary grew up in Arkansas and attended school there. Mary married Joseph Alvia Smith in Arkansas and from that union they were blessed with four daughters. Mary worked as a nurse in the old Henryetta Hospital for many years and later worked in a nursing capacity with several different nursing homes. Mary remained married to Joseph Smith for well over 50 years before his death. Mary loved to fish, and go boating. She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed serving at many family gatherings. She was also a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mary was loved deeply by her family and she was a loving, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by the many who knew and loved her. Mary is preceded in death by both her mother and father; 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn Jo Thompson and husband Jimmy of Henryetta, Cheryl Cato and husband Mark of Okay, OK, Freda Smith of Oktaha, and Valerie MIchelle McDaniel and husband Robin of Warner, OK; by 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and many good friends. Following cremation, there will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00pm at Vaught Cemetery in Webbers Falls, OK. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
