Maxine D. Morris passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, following a brief illness. She was 94.
Maxine was born in Welty, Oklahoma, on May 23, 1929, to James and Mary Artie (Pope) Nolen. She attended elementary school in Bearden, Oklahoma, before moving to and attending school in Tranquillity, California.
After returning to Oklahoma, she married Gerald Morris on April 14, 1950, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and they had three children-Jerry, Larry, and Cheryl.
She worked for many years as a telephone operator and retired from Southwestern Bell in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Maxine was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She touched countless lives as a cherished figure in her community, and she was known for her loving, kind, and thoughtful nature.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and her deep faith and trust in God guided her throughout her life.
Maxine was a talented painter and enjoyed gardening, working outside in the yard, and taking care of animals. Her life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the joy found in everyday pleasures of God's creation.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jerry Morris, and her sister Bert Bilderback.
She is survived by her son Larry Morris of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and her daughter Cheryl Owens of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; grandchildren Daniel Morris and wife Kathy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jerry Morris II and wife Margaret Ann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ladonna Martin and her husband Brad of Norman, Oklahoma, Nicole (Hicks) Morris of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Michael Owens of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Michelle Owens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Alex Martin and Mackenzie, Jade, and Louis Hicks; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Okmulgee Cemetery with Jerry Morris II officiating.
At Maxine's request, the casket will remain closed and there will be no viewing.
