Melba Wallace passed away peacefully at her current home in Bixby, Oklahoma on November 14th, 2024. At her passing she was attended by daughter, Cindy Brown husband Brad, daughter Alene Tyler & husband Curtis, granddaughter Rita Cullum, grandson Daniel Brown, and great-granddaughters, Samatha, Natalie & Isabelle Brown by her side. Many of her family members had just visited prior to her passing.
Melba Fayetta Blair, the fourth child of eight children to Oscar and Blanche Blair, was born on February 20, 1939 in a rural settlement called Artussee near Eufaula, Oklahoma.
Melba grew up near Eufaula and attended school there until the 8th grade when the family moved to Arvin, California to work in the harvest. It was there that she met Jack G. Wallace and married him on June 9th, 1956 and started a family of their own. Together they had five children plus two from Jack's first marriage. They continued to work in the harvest in California and Queen Creek, Arizona. Later, they moved Eastward to Amarillo, Texas, Midwest City, Oklahoma and Prague, Oklahoma before settling in Dustin, Oklahoma. In addition to being a fieldworker, Melba was a mother and housewife, and later as a restaurant cook in Henryetta, Oklahoma for many years.
She helped raised several of her grandchildren and took care of many others who were down on their luck.
Following retirement, she spent a lot of time sewing and making quilts, most all of which were gifted to family members.
She liked being outside, but not on windy days! She said that wind annoyed her to no end!
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at Integrity Chapel with Michael Branum officiating. Interment will follow in Dustin Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
