Melvin David Croney, a longtime resident of Henryetta, passed peacefully from this life on July 15, 2015 at his home in Henryetta at the age of 83. Melvin was born on August 10, 1931 in Dustin, Oklahoma to Frank Croney and Maggie Hatcher Croney. Melvin grew up in the Hughes County area around Dustin, working in various farming capacities. He moved to California for several years before returning to Oklahoma. Melvin joined the U.S. Army and faithfully served for approximately 10 years before his honorable discharge. Melvin worked for several years at a concrete plant in Oklahoma City. He later worked with PepsiCo as a truck driver for 18 years before his retirement. Melvin married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Peavler on April 26, 1988 in Henryetta and they remained happily married for 27 years. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. Melvin enjoyed studying his Bible and was an avid prayer warrior. He enjoyed bluegrass music, and liked playing cards as he was an accomplished gin rummy player. Melvin is preceded in death by both his mother and father; a sister, Mildred Burden; three brothers, Merle Croney, Dale Croney, and Billy Wayne Croney; and by 2 nieces and a nephew. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Croney of the Henryetta home; a son, Derrick Shane Croney and wife Amber of Shreveport, LA; three daughters, Deidra Durbin of Duncan, OK, Desira Croney of Tulsa, and Rebbekka Croney of the home; a sister, Betty Chisum of Oklahoma City; by a host of other extended family members and many good friends. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta.
