Merl Edward Dickey, a longtime resident of Dewar passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in Tulsa at the age of 88. He was born September 5, 1927 near Enterprise, Oklahoma to Truman Thomas Dickey & Mary Franklin (Carter) Dickey. He grew up around Stigler & Enterprise area and was a Veteran of WWII serving with the United States Navy. Merl was an entrepreneur, having owned the Cash & Carry in Dewar as well as a grocery store in the Spelter City area. He had worked as a Police Officer for the city of Bixby, was an area barber for many years, and had also worked for Douglas Aviation. He served for many years on the Dewar School Board as well as the Dewar City Council. He was a longtime member of Dewar First Baptist Church. He also loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his children, grandchildren, and all his family. He is preceded in death by his parents T.T. & Mary Dickey, also by his wife Mina Dickey, a son, Merl E. Dickey, Jr. a daughter Linda Webb & husband Kenneth, & two brothers, Jack Dickey & Wayne Dickey. He is survived by three children: Jackie Been & husband John of Tiger Mountain; Tommy Dickey & wife Janna of Dewar; Elaine Stewart of Dewar; Nine Grandchildren & twenty great grandchildren; Two brothers: Earl Dickey of Henryetta; Carl Don Dickey & wife Donna of Lake Eufaula; Four sisters, Marie Porter & husband Frank of Henryetta; Louise Peters of Oklahoma City; Bernice Donathan of Henryetta; Wanda Dodge & husband Carlton of Dewar; Also by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives; Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday, November 27th from Noon until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Vance & Rev. Ryan Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Salt Creek Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
