Shurden Funeral Home 411 West Division Street Henryetta, OK 74437 (918) Fax (918) 652-4451 Nettie Ruth (Carlton) McCormick, a resident of Henryetta, was born December 11, 1914 in Pauls Valley, OK to Thomas and Fannie Carlton. She passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Okmulgee, where she was a resident of the Baptist Village. Soon after she completed high school, she married Thomas Ryan, of Dustin. They owned and operated a farm and ranch south of Dustin near the Big Prairie area, where they had one daughter, Wanda Jean. After Mr. Ryan's death in 1961, Ruth enrolled at East Central University to attain her education degree. She began her teaching career in 1965 at Dustin Public Schools, her high school alma mater. In 1966, she married Richard "Dick" McCormick in Okmulgee on September 3. They taught at Dustin Public Schools until they both retired in 1986. Ruth and Richard were members of St. Michael Catholic Church of Henryetta. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard McCormick; her sister, Dottie Ratliff; a brother, Berlin Carlton and her parents, Thomas and Fannie Carlton. Survived by her daughter, Wanda Hansford, Broken Arrow; nephews and nieces, Paul Carlton of Arlington, TX; Katie Hargrove, Harrah; Mary Tucker, Norman; Michael McCormick, Mounds; James McCormick, Shattuck; Robert McCormick, Atlanta, GA; Mary Catherine Schultz, Shattuck. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta. Services are under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
