Orvil Jessie Mccullar

Orvil Jessie (O.J.) McCullar, a resident of Oktaha, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in Checotah, Oklahoma at the age of 86. O.J. was born on January 24, 1927 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma to Jessie McCullar and Nellie Whitfield McCullar. O.J. grew up in the Hanna, Oklahoma area and attended East Liberty School near Hanna. He joined the U.S. Army and faithfully served in Japan during World War II. Following his military service, he returned home and married Mildred Ilene Kennedy. He worked for the McAlester Ammunitions Depot for approximately 32 years before his retirement in 1992. He was also a farmer/rancher for most all of his adult life. O.J. loved to garden and work at making his yard look extra appealing. O.J. was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Freewill Baptist Church in Hanna. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Ilene Kennedy McCullar; both his mother and father; a brother, Raymond McCullar; and a sister, Beula Dover. O.J. is survived by his wife, Edna McCullar of Checotah; by three sons, Jessie David McCullar and wife Carolyn of Henryetta, James Dwight McCullar of Norman, and Jackie Dale McCullar and wife Debbie of Oktaha, OK; six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Norman McCullar of Mesa, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; other extended family and many good friends. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:00am at the Assembly of God Church in Hanna, OK with Pastor Kevin Jones officiating, assisted by Elder A.C. Fields. Burial will follow immediately at Hanna Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Kentley McCullar, Drake Crosby, Devon Carpenter, Kenley Carpenter, Stacey McCullar, Kenneth Carpenter, and Dalton Carpenter. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Davis, Teddy Skinner, and James Paul Layman. Viewing and visitation will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Thursday, July 18 from 2pm until 8pm, and on Friday from 8am until 8pm.
