Patricia Louise Berry

November 19, 1945 — September 6, 2023

Patricia Louise Berry was born on November 19, 1945 in Henryetta, OK to Zack and Marie (Rogers) Spear. She was a brilliant person who had a lifelong love of learning. She learned to read at a very young age while sitting in her father's lap reading the newspaper and kept that love of reading throughout her lifetime. She graduated from Hanna High School and started college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater at age 16.
During this time, she began correspondence with a handsome Army soldier James Berry who was stationed in Germany; they fell in love and were married on June 18, 1964. To this union was born four children: Robin, Deborah, Angela, and James II.
After her children were grown and had their own degrees, she decided to complete her own education, earning her Bachelor of Science in English Education and Masters of Science in Library Science and Administration. She began her career as an English teacher at Wilson High School, then became a counselor at Hanna Public Schools. She ultimately became the first female superintendent in McIntosh County and served as superintendent of Hanna Public Schools from 2003-2014. She loved Hanna school and the Hanna community dearly, even briefly coming out of retirement to help the school when needed.
Not only was Patricia a brilliant, educated, and professional woman, she was an avid baker and cook. Known for her signature desserts and meals, she loved cooking and feeding anyone who was lucky enough to cross her path. It was her love language. No one ever went hungry if they were around her. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, for the annual pie supper, and for church every Sunday.
Scholar, baker, cook, wife, and mother were just a few of her titles, but perhaps her most favorite thing to be called was Grandmother to her grandchildren and Granna to her great-grandchildren. She loved every single one of them dearly and encouraged and pushed them to get their education. She was always so proud of their accomplishments and was there for them throughout their entire lives, instilling life lessons and cheering them on.
Patricia had an amazing sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was smart, witty, and loved to see her grandkids cut up and laugh at and with one another. She was all about family and loved getting together to eat for holidays, Sunday afternoons after church, and everything in between.
In addition to her love of learning, cooking, baking, and reading, she also loved watching sports. She could give you random sports facts and details right off the top of her head. She was an OSU and Thunder fan, but loved watching her grandkids play most of all.
She had an incredible work ethic, unmatched by no other. Even after she retired, her mind stayed sharp and you could often find her helping out her grandkids with their schoolwork or critiquing their college essays. She was a wise woman who was great at everything and an incredible resource for any topic.
Patricia was a member of Weogufkee Indian Baptist church, and we are incredibly comforted to have the assurance of her salvation through Jesus Christ. We rejoice knowing that she has been united with her Savior, reunited with her husband, and that one day we will see her again.
Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, James Berry; parents, Zack and Marie Spear; father and mother-in-law, Everett and Verneil (Robertson) Berry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glenda and Bob Waldrip; brother-in-law Johnny Berry; sister-in-law Margaret Berry; and sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and J.C.
