Robert Doyle Akins

Robert Doyle Akins Sr., a resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday January 1, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born December 16, 1933 in McCurtain, Oklahoma to Richard Daniel and Minnie Eliza (Walker) Akins.

Robert served in the United States Navy and fought in the Korean War. He worked as an insurance agent for Trans America Life for many years, was a life-long musician, and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard & Minnie Akins, daughter and son in law Fred and Dina Thompson, his brother and sister in law Glenn and Theresa Akins, brothers Bill and Don Akins.

He is survived by his children Rebecca Dee Akins of Houston, Texas, Robbie and James Blades of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Robert Doyle Akins Jr. of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Sammy, and wife, Dana Akins of Pearland, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Verlene Orum of Henryetta, Oklahoma, and brothers Jerry, and wife, Kay Akins of Cushing, Oklahoma, Jimmy, and wife, Debbie Akins of Jenks Oklahoma.

Robert’s grandchildren are Amanda & Whitney Weimer, Jennifer Weaver, Cody and Kimberly Blades, Alysha Spangler, Wesley Akins, Austin Akins and Travis Akins. His great grandchildren are Taylor Hodge, Kenadi Tyrrell, and Crew Blades.

In his life, Robert never met a stranger and was a kind, fun loving, and positive spirit. He cultivated lifelong friendships, was a loving father, loyal brother, and devoted son. Robert had a passion for playing music, a lover of all animals, and excellent golfer and fisherman. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be on Friday from 6-8pm at Integrity Funeral Service.

Services will be held at Integrity Funeral Home in Henryetta, Oklahoma on Saturday January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow the service at Silome Springs Cemetery in McCurtain, Oklahoma.
