Roman Randall Harjo, Sr., a resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 58. Roman was born on March 2, 1956 in Talihina, Oklahoma. At an early age Roman was warmly welcomed into the family of Isly and Cheparney Harjo, his adoptive parents. Roman grew up in the Henryetta area. He attended grade school at St. Michaels School in Henryetta and also later attended Henryetta Public Schools. After his high school years, Roman also attended Okmulgee Tech where he learned the automotive body work trade. Roman was a member of the Hickory Ground #1 church and served as a layperson within his own church and other Indian churches in the area as well. Roman worked for several years as a security guard for Okmulgee High School and for Creek Nation Lighthorsemen. Roman loved professional wrestling, gardening, and spending time with his pet dogs. Roman married the love of his life, Mahalia Buckley on September 24, 1977 at Sand Creek Baptist Church in Wetumka, Oklahoma. From that union, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Roman Randall Harjo, Jr. He is preceded in death by both of his adoptive parents, Isly and Cheparney Harjo. Roman is survived by his wife, Mahalia of the home; a son, Roman Harjo, Jr. of Okmulgee; a sister, Rebecca Staten of Claremore; an aunt, Ramona Randall of Claremore; and by his maternal grandparents, Annie and Roman Randall of Okemah; as well as other extended family and many good friends. Viewing for Roman will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 9 from 10am until 4pm. A wake service will be held that evening at Hickory Ground #1 from 6pm to 8pm. A funeral service for Roman will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2:00pm at Hickory Ground #1 with Rev. Mitchell Taylor, Rev. Wallace Gambler, Jr. and Rev. Woody Fields officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Roman Harjo, Jr., Jimmy Staten, and Ryan C. Buckley. Mitchell Taylor will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
