Roy Sanford "Sheriffy" Ward, a longtime Dewar and Hitchita resident, passed from this life on Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Henryetta at the age of 88. Roy was born on December 18, 1925 to Lee Roy Ward and Vera Gore Ward. Roy grew up in Dewar where he attended Dewar Public Schools. After his education, Roy joined his father in the farming business. Roy was an accomplished handyman and laborer and exhibited a strong work ethic. Roy was a christian and attended church faithfully. He loved to fish and hunt and remained an active fisherman for many years. While living in Dewar, Roy worked in connection with the Dewar Police Department, where he earned the nickname "Sheriffy". Roy had great love for his family and he will be missed by the many family members and friends he had. Roy is preceded in death by his mother and father; his four brothers, Delmo War, Lindy Ward, John L. Ward Sr, and Buford Ward; and one sister, Lorene Morrison. He is survived by his nephew, John L. Ward of Hitchita; nephews, Tommy Morrison & wife Donna of Pierce, Dale Morrison of Yuma, AZ, and Bobby Morrison of Tiger Mountain; nieces, Darlene Dodge and husband Paul of Tiger Mountain, Linda Jackson of Edmond, Judy Ward of Lubbock, TX; great nephews Christopher John Ward of Hitchita, and Clint Seamon and wife Christy of Hitchita; great nieces Cheyenne L Ward of Oktaha, Crystal N. Ward of Hitchita, Cayla Ward of Hitchita, Betty Hatley and husband Gary of Hitchita; several great great nieces and many good friends. Viewing will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 11 from 11am until 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 2:00pm at Integrity Chapel with Rev. Duke Britt officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Everett Brake, Tommy Morrison, Christopher Ward, Jeff Stevenson, John Ward, and Jimmy Spurlock.
