Roy D. Woods 1932-2012
Roy Dale Woods, a longtime resident of the Bryant Community, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 in Henryetta at the age of 79. He was born August 4, 1932 in Indianola, Oklahoma to Clifton C. "Tip" Woods and Emma (Cobb) Woods.
Roy grew up in Arizona, but graduated from Indianola High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and served on the board of Rural Water District #5. He was also a member of the Bryant Community Church where he served in church leadership. Roy was an avid woodworker, farmer, cattle rancher, and loved to garden. He retired from Ball Brothers Glass company after twenty-three years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dillard Woods & Manuel Woods and wife Geraldine, sisters, Opal Woods, Helen Doyle & husband Monroe Doyle, baby sister Irene and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Geneva Woods of the home; Two daughters, Debra Langley & husband Clay of Sand Springs; Amy Keller & Richard Keller of Henryetta; Three grandchildren, Amanda Notley & husband Toby of Okmulgee; Tara Asmus & husband Phillip of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Gena Vee Langley of Eureka, Springs, Arkansas; Five great-granddaughters, Montgomery Notley, Skyla Notley, Deidra Asmus,
Maggie Asmus & Sophia Asmus One sister-in-law, Betty Woods of Cherokee, Oklahoma; As well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-6 p.m.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff and administration of Bono Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Roy during the last three years.
Pallbearers will be, Floyd Johnson, Charles Woods, Jeffrey Woods, David Woods, Andrews Lemonds, & T. C. McCoy.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Hitchita with Rev. Robert Hunnicutt & Rev. Justin Tarwater, officiating. Interment will be in Lackey Cemetery, Hitchita, Oklahoma with Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard.
