Shirley Ann Gossage, age 75, a resident of Russellville, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Sparks Select Specialty Hospital in Fort Smith following a lengthy illness of Parkinson’s disease.
She was born August 13, 1935, at Russellville in the Gum Log Community, to Samuel H. and Bertie Inez Purdom Gossage. She was a 1954 graduate of the Henryetta High School in Henryetta, Oklahoma and attended Draughons Business School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but dedicated her life as a caregiver to family members. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Russellville and enjoyed cooking, crafts, traveling and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nancy Estella Gossage in 1990; and a brother, George William “Bill” Gossage in 1991.
Survivors include a sister, Ruth Gossage Byrum of Russellville; a sister-in-law, Polly Londagin Gossage of Henryetta, Oklahoma; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, Bruno and Leanah Hampton of Russellville, Billy and Glenda Burris of Springfield, Missouri, Geneva and Frank Koch, Warner Ray and Carolyn Baxter, all of Henryetta, Doris and Lee Dacus of Pomona, California, James and Sandra Purdom, Harold Purdom, Frank and Joann Purdom, Paul and Edylee Purdom, Bob and June Purdom, Patsy and Ned Purdom, Mary Ann Davis (Mrs. Howard Davis), Dorothy Belz, Don and Peggy Davis, Wallace and Glenda Davis, and Billy Purdom, all of Texas, Elbert Purdom, Nancy and Frank Rude, and Billy Norman Purdom, all of Michigan; and other relatives, friends, and church family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Lunningham, Burlin Lunningham, Frank Koch, Warner Ray Baxter, Jerry Taylor and Sam Duvall.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 103 South Boston Avenue, Russellville, Arkansas 72801 or a charity of choice.
The family extends a special thank you to the Rev. Dana Hoover, Dr. Robert Thurlby and all personnel at the Russellville Nursing Center for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010 at
Integrity Funeral Service.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Apostolic House of Prayer east of Integrity Funeral Service with Rev. Jack Vance, officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
