Sonnie Lewis, a resident of Dustin died Saturday, October 18, 2014 in Dustin at the age of 85. He was born October 19, 1928 in McIntosh County to Jonas Lewis Kano and Alice (Simmons) Kano. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as Sergeant with the United States Army and also the Army National Guard. He served as speaker for Weogufkee Tribal grounds and served as Elder. He enjoyed his grandchildren and especially gatherings with his family He worked in construction building highways, bridges and water lines. He married his wife of 66 years, Nannie Watts March 28, 1948 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He was a member of the VFW and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Dustin. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Walter Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, Eldon Lewis and infant baby boy. Also by two sisters, Fannie Barnett & Nakka Carpitcher. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Lewis of the home; Five children: Minnie McCulley of Broken Arrow; Lela James & husband Richard of Tulsa; Jerry Lewis & wife Beverly of Dustin; Maggie Lewis of Weleetka; Gary Lewis of Dustin; Twenty-Seven Grandchildren; Forty-Nine Great Grandchildren; One Great-Great Grandchild and one great-great grandchild on the way; One brother: Bunny Lewis of Wetumka; A host of friends and other relatives. Wake services are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church in Dustin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church in Dustin with Rev. Bill Hobia, Rev. Daniel Buck, & Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will be in Lewis Family Cemetery near Vernon, Oklahoma. Full military honors will be conducted by Creek Nation Honor Guard. Services are under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
