Sylvia Jean Johnny, a longtime resident of Dewar, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in Yukon, Oklahoma at the age of 82. Sylvia was born on January 6, 1934 in Dewar, Oklahoma to Mack Davis and Eloise Dorrah.
Sylvia grew up in the Dewar, Oklahoma area. She attended Eufaula Boarding School and received her education through the high school level there. She later attended Haskell Junior College and received an associate degree in education. Sylvia worked for many years as assistant to the teachers at Dewar Public Schools where she positively affected and touched many lives of students there. She loved watching basketball and football, particularly in cheering on her favorite teams, the Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma City Thunder, and her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Sylvia was very involved in education through the Oklahoma Education Association and she was a longtime member of the Silver Spring Baptist Church at Tiger Mountain. Sylvia was an accomplished pianist and played many times for church functions and school events.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Silas Davis, Sr; and two sisters, Stella McIntosh and Ella Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Adams and husband Bill of Mustang, Oklahoma; a son, Michael Johnny of Oklahoma City; a brother, Mack Davis, Jr. of Okmulgee; four grandchildren, Ashley Fish and husband Bruce of Seminole, Leslie Battice of Ada, Elvis Johnny and fiance' Lorena of Oklahoma City, and Aspen Johnny of Oklahoma City; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and many good friends.
The family would like to thank several good friends including Erma Carter, Carolyn Powell, Linda Been, Alison Alexander, Shirley Waldrop, and Joe Fowler for their personal assistance in providing care for Sylvia.
Viewing will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Thursday, November 17 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm and on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 8:00am until 5:00pm.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at1:00pm at Silver Spring Baptist Church at Tiger Mountain with Rev. Dennis Bible officating and Rev. A.J. Tiger assisting. Interment will follow immediately at New Sonora Cemetery under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be Stoney McIntosh, Stanley McIntosh, Silas "Buck" Davis, Joe Fowler, Elvis Johnny, Sonny Been, and Michael Johnny. Honorary bearers will be Robert Davis, Jodie Dunn, Brett Tiger, Trevon McClure, Carl Britt, and Jackie Miller.
