Thomas L. "Pete" Burney, a lifelong resident of Hoffman, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2014 at his home in Hoffman at the age of 77.

Pete was born to Beulah (Lindley) and Pierce Burney on December 13, 1937 in Hoffman. He was the seventh child of fourteen.

Pete married the love of his life, Ruby Adair on August 25, 1961 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Pete said the first time he saw Ruby he was going to marry her and was laughed at. A week later they were married.

Pete was an Okmulgee County deputy sheriff and worked in the carpet industry all his adult life. Pete was a member of First Baptist Church of Hoffman, served on many community boards and founded the Hoffman Fellowship Center. Pete served as a "foster" father for many children as well as an International Host Father. Pete enjoyed camping and fishing with his family, buying and selling things and anything his children and grandchildren were involved in.

Pete was preceded in death by his mother and father, an infant son, nine brothers, Mac, Jimmy, C.W. "Kink", Allen, Mervin, Cecil "Hooty", Billy Jack, Otis, Dude and one sister Norma Lee Gadbois.

Pete is survived by his wife Ruby of the home;
One daughter, Eboni Burney of the home;
Two sons, William "Bo" Burney and wife Becky of Hoffman;
T. L. "Lucky" Burney of Hoffman;
One granddaughter, Ashley Burney of Tulsa;
Three grandsons, Aaron Burney and Fiance' Skylar, Abu and Emil all of Hoffman;
One brother, Herbert "Lou" Burney and wife Becky of Midwest City;
Two sisters, Ethel "Liz" Owen and husband Kenny of Nixa, Missouri;
Joanne Sessions of Okmulgee;
Numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Carson, David Carson, James Lacquement, James Lishbrook, Marcus Overturff & Dale Linkenhoker. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Britt, W. J. Celestine & Bob Horn.

Viewing will begin on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 5-8pm, and Friday 8am-8pm.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Hoffman First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Vance, officiating. Interment will follow at Hoffman Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.

The family requests memorials be made to the Hoffman Fellowship center at P.O. Box 533, Dewar, Oklahoma 74431.
